Member's Choice

Last Thursday the Cabinet held it's final meeting of the year, which by tradition is a "Member's Choice" night. This is in recognition of the fact that there are gems buried deep in the stocks that somehow do not make it into the themes selected by the executive. At the previous meeting the members drew playing pieces out of a hat and the four who drew the predetermined colours were instructed to make a selection prior to this meeting.
Grant was unable to attend due to illness, so his selection ultimately devolved to Michelle, one of our two guests. The other guest, Bill, also had the chance to pick a whisky because the Old Pulteney 21 year old, selected by Jason, had, at most, 1/4 ounce left in it per member. These then were the selections (selector in brackets):
Glenkinchie 12 (Cory)
Macallan 15 (Bill)
Glenfiddich 30 (Trevor)
Lagavulin 16 (Michelle)
Old Pulteney 21 (Jason)
Al also brought several 750 ml bottles of Unibroue's Raftman beer, which is brewed with smoked whisky malt. These made for fine spacers, especially in the change of gears between the Lag and the Old Pult. We felt compelled to save the Old Pult for last as it was the clear club favorite this year as well as having been voted "Whisky of the Year" for 2011 by... er.... some publication.
All five whiskies were very well received, however I won't bother detailing the tasting notes as they have all been covered before.
So instead of reading about whisky tasting, you can view whisky tasting below.
Slainte!

Many thanks to member Cory Penner for these excellent photos!
